Subject: Machine Manager III beta ... (again)
Mirroring DynoMotion's new version release we have Machine Manager available here::

http://sourceforge.net/projects/cnctw/files/Machine%20Manager/Install/Machine%20Manager%20III.zip/download

While you do NOT need hardware to try it out, you will need to download the latest KMotion install (4.28).

If you install both KMotion in the default location, MM3 is already configured, however if you do not you simply need to change a setting in the cofiguration XML.

Let me know if there are any problems.

Brad,

When I run Setup.exe, I get: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance".

I had no trouble installing KMotion v428 immediately before this.

Regards,
Ray L.

Hello Ray

I just added a prereq for the MSI version 4.5. It will likely prompt you to download this from Microsoft's site.

KMotion uses Install Shield, and VS2008 uses MSI version 3.1 which I think is why the problem did not exist before.

I have updated the install package, please re-download and let me know if that did the trick for you.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hello Ray,

I'm sure you have tried this, but perhaps run as administrator?

Also, you can try the .MSI file by itself.

Barring that, I uploaded the latest install package here in the group::

http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/IFn7TlUnyCg1Fujy137MaW1pfMYWigDyJTl-rOKbTW029ZTZX-PwxtwrYNKJkuPwJwINfOasXEbrqW__jS6D5qeUsz-i-ZigsLdrgP-c3nG0X5PI/MM/Machine%20Manager%20III.zip

In case SourceForge has not updated yet.

Thanks again,

Brad Murry

Hi Brad,

For me it installs but gets errors when trying to run.  I installed both to the default directories.  I'm out of the office and using a XP box that happens to have VS2010 installed.  I get Err1 twice and then Err2 and below is the text extracted from the Err2 text box.

Brad,

Looks like something wigged out on my machine. I re-booted, and was able to install OK (after un-installing the previous version). However, it won't start up. It takes a loooooooong time for anything to display, then I get an error dialog "Machine Manager Detected an Error", "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: source". If I click Yes, then after it starts drawing the form, I am stuck with an endless stream of .NET error dialogs, complaining about an unhandled exception caused by a null object reference. Here's the "meat" of the error details:

All I get after a WHITE display for a long time is a grey screen nothing else is displayed. The grey looking screen is like small tiles or fish scales.

Hmm... it all looks to be caused by(or by using) a fancy third party library I am using...

I am going to install this on a clean test box and see what is happening.

One other thing, it looks like nobody's spindle manager dialogs are populating with the default spindle.

Thanks for the patience and feedback everybody-

Seems that an OpenGL 2.0 capable video card is required.

I will look into a resolution.

Found out sumthin. When second window appears (the .NET window), drag .NET window away from the center Graphics Preview area of MM3 and then click Continue. If you move mouse over the Graphics Preview area the .NET window comes back.

Hello Ray,

Try the new package and if you still have "display issues", try moving/stretching them around.

Unless you are using a very small monitor I think the problem might be low screen resolution from using Mach.

Thanks for the feedback,
Brad Murry

Brad,
I was seeing the same thing ray reported (window took 75 secs to open, then the continual error dialogs).

I just tried the version that you uploaded this morning -
This version simply hangs and never even gets to where it opens and paints the main window.

Hello Dave,

Can you give me some information about your PC?  I have tested the install on a very underpowered netbook with good results.(it does take about ten seconds to load, but it is a netbook after all)

You do have Kmotion4.28 installed yes?

Brad,
I was seeing the same thing ray reported (window took 75 secs to open, then the continual error dialogs).

I just tried the version that you uploaded this morning -
This version simply hangs and never even gets to where it opens and paints the main window.

Dave

Same here. It slurps up 145Mbytes of memory, but never actually displays anything.

I had the window as hidden for debugging puroposes in the install but now the GUI will show.

Sorry about that....

FWIW - Mine is just a plain-vanilla HP laptop, XP SP3, Intel Graphics. KMotion 4.28 installed yesterday.

Brad,

OK, now it comes up, but the display is still kinda hosed. Control overlaying other controls, controls off the bottom of the screen, etc. FRO and other controls on that "row" overlay the Z DRO, SpindleManager panel overlays the Z jogging control, and also extends beyond the bottom of the window, so gets clipped. But, it is up, and sort-kinda working....

Just installed latest MM3 and all seems to be working. Installed fine. Started in about 5 seconds, no error windows and G Code Viewer is working.
This PC has no KFLOP and is a Dual Core 2.6ghz AMD with 4gb ram.

Hi Ray,

The default screen config was made on my dev laptop which has 1920x1200 resolution.

While the controls are meant to stretch/scale, there are limits.

I suspect you are using reduced resolution for Mach compatibility, if so you may need to stretch or rearrange the GUI to suit your needs.  The only other option is more resolution.

The control windows can be moved around and stretched/nested/tabbed in  a similar fashion as you see in VS 2008/ VS 2010.

HTH,

Brad Murry

Hi brad,
Yep, Kmotion is installed - ver is the one I got from yesterdays release notices. No kflop hdw on the PC.

PC is Core 2 Duo, E7400 CPU @ 12.8Ghz, 3.4 GB Ram, Win XP SP3, all patches up to date. Video is set up with two cards running 2 monitors.

Dave

Hello Troy,

After simulating a few 3d gcode programs MM went up to about 127 mb and after about a minute is back down to 120~ish.  I have no Kflop connected, so it is likely higher once it is.

For giggles I ran Mach alongside it and it pretty much stayed at around 97 mb.

I think MM will use a varying amount of resources depending on things like CPU cores available and video hardware.

That said, I’m sure there are ton of optimizations I can do to make it leaner/meaner.

So I think 135 mb is ok, what to look out for is a memory leak which will cause the memory to climb higher and higher without really going down.

I have not seen a memory leak yet.

-Brad

I noticed that the Memory Usage is about 135 mb, is this normal? Seems high.
Ill let you know about actually moving machine:) I have never configured anything besides Mach3 to control machine.

Thanks,
Troy

Hello Troy,

KMotionCNC is an independent program and is not used in conjunction with MM3.

There is a Configuration Editor that is nested in the same panel as the Gcode control by default.

Within this control you can edit every aspect of MM.

For a simple CNC setup you probably only need to edit the three axes, Interpreter and a spindle.

From there, everything is setup via scripts that in Kflop’s case will fire off c programs much the same as you are already doing for things like homing, etc…

Happy to help,

Brad Murry

Brad,

My display is 1280x900. I don't understand why the display won't properly size down to that without the controls getting so messed up. That's only about a 30% reduction.

Ray L.

Hello Bengt,

The ‘scaled’ background is by design, however it looks like all of your controls are hidden.

What happens when you goto view->display items at the top of the window?

Are any of the items checked?  If not when you check them they should pop up into view.

Consider reinstalling from the sourceforge site to ensure you do have the latest build.

Hello Ray,

The Interpreter Axis Manager control stretches but does not scale.  I will see about making it scale.  In the meantime if you drag it to it’s own column it should display correctly.

Brad,

My display is 1280x900. I don't understand why the display won't properly size down to that without the controls getting so messed up. That's only about a 30% reduction.

Ray L.

Bengt
